Enrollment at a Glance

KIPP Nashville Public Schools educates students in grades K-12. Students are offered a seat at our schools through an application and random lottery selection process. Anyone who lives in Davidson County can apply. There are no academic admissions requirements and it is free to attend.

Let’s Get Started

The application process looks slightly different depending on which grade your student will be entering and whether you are applying for an incoming kindergarten student or a student who has never been enrolled in Metro Nashville Public Schools. Choose an option below to see how the process works.

Enrolling in Grades 1 – 12

Step 1. Application

We accept applications between October and February. To apply to our schools, families must fill out a simple, online application through our enrollment system called Smart Choice. In order to be considered for our lottery process, applications must be submitted from the time the application system opens until approximately mid-February. It does not matter at which point you submit your application during the application window. The only requirement to be included in our random lottery selection process is that you submit by the lottery deadline. Any applications submitted after the lottery deadline will automatically be placed on the waiting list.

Step 2. Lottery

Students offered a seat at a KIPP Nashville school will be chosen through a random lottery selection process that takes place in March. Families can see the results of the lottery in their Smart Choice portal. Schools will call families and mail a letter home.

Step 3. Enrollment and Registration

Once you are accepted into a KIPP Nashville Public School, families will then need to register their child(ren) for that school. To register, a family will complete an online packet about their student and submit a student birth certificate, parent/guardian photo ID, proof of address, and immunization records.

You will also have to accept your KIPP seat through MNPS. Families will receive an email from MNPS about a KIPP placement. Log in here and accept your seat. Congratulations, you’re now a part of the KIPP Team and Family!

Step 4. Enrollment Meetings and Orientation

Enrollment meetings take place as early as April and prepare families for the beginning of school. During the summer, our schools host orientation events to ensure that our families and students are set up for success to start the school year strong. These meetings will help families learn important information and receive resources for your child’s first day at KIPP Nashville school.

Step 5. First Day of School

We look forward to seeing our new and returning students on the first day of school in August! It is important to be present on the first day so our schools know your student is attending, and it sets our KIPPsters up for success!

KIPP Nashville High Schools

At KIPP Nashville, the path toward a career of highest aspiration and a fulfilling career starts in ninth grade. Our KIPP Forward team begins working with students through regular classes and check-ins, teaching students about the college application process. Students participate in a program called YouScience, which helps them match interests and talents to potential career paths. The high school experience is geared toward equipping students with the academic and social-emotional skills that will prepare them for that next step after high school and make the best choices toward reaching their goals. With courses centered around meaningful discourse and a focus on culturally-responsive curriculum, our KIPPsters learn how to harness the power of their voice as they come together to build a better, more just world for us all.

Teachers encourage students to speak up and engage in meaningful conversations that require them to think critically and challenge each other’s perspectives in impactful ways.

The KIPP high school experience involves a wide range of AP classes, including computer science, calculus, literature, statistics, and world history, and a variety of after school clubs and sports.
