KIPP Forward: College, Career & Beyond

Every student deserves the opportunity to build a future that reflects their interests, strengths, and aspirations. At KIPP Nashville, preparing students for what comes after high school means helping them understand their options and giving them the tools and support to pursue the path they choose.

KIPP Forward supports KIPP Nashville high school students and alumni as they explore college, technical education, careers, and other postsecondary opportunities. Through individualized counseling, college and career exploration, financial planning, and continued alumni support, students can turn their goals into concrete next steps.

College & Career Readiness

Planning for life after high school becomes increasingly specific as students approach graduation.

KIPP Forward provides College & Career Readiness programming that helps students research careers and educational pathways, clarify their goals, and build a postsecondary plan. Students work with counselors and their families as they move from exploring possibilities to completing the steps required for enrollment, training, or employment.

Students may receive support with:

  • Career and educational pathway research
  • College exploration
  • College applications
  • ACT preparation
  • Financial aid and scholarships
  • Career and job readiness
  • College and career visits
  • Postsecondary planning

The process gives students time to consider what they want from their futures rather than waiting until graduation to begin making those decisions.

    Explore College Before Graduation

Learning about a college online is useful. Experiencing a campus can give students a different perspective.

KIPP Forward connects students with opportunities to explore college early, including pre-college summer programs, college presentations, campus trips, and college fairs.

Students can also interact with college and career representatives and participate in experiences such as college visits, career days, presentations, interviews, and job shadowing as opportunities become available.

These experiences help students gather information they can use when deciding which educational or career environment may be right for them.

Preparing for the Cost of College

For students considering college, understanding how to pay for it is an important part of choosing a path.

KIPP Forward works with students and families on financial planning, including scholarship opportunities and financial aid. The program also supports college savings and financial literacy efforts designed to help students better understand the financial side of postsecondary education.

For college-bound students, support can continue through the application and financial aid process so families don’t have to navigate every step on their own.

Families Are Part of the Planning Process

Decisions about life after high school often involve the entire family.

KIPP Forward works to include parents and caregivers in the process through workshops, guest speakers, meetings, and other opportunities to learn more about college planning.

Students, caregivers, and counselors can work together to consider questions such as:

    • What careers interest the student?
    • What education or training does that career require?
    • Which colleges or programs are a strong fit?
    • What will different options cost?
    • What scholarships or financial aid may be available?
    • What steps need to happen before graduation?
    • What option best aligns with the student’s goals?

Bringing families into these conversations can help students build a plan with people who know and support them.

Preparing for More Than College

KIPP Forward is about college, career, and beyond.

For students interested in entering the workforce or pursuing careers that require technical training, KIPP Forward can help them research pathways and develop job-readiness skills.

That distinction matters because postsecondary success doesn’t look the same for every student.

A four-year university may be the right choice for one graduate. Another may thrive at a technical school, while someone else may be ready to begin a career or pursue another opportunity.

KIPP Nashville’s mission is centered on preparing students with the skills and confidence to pursue the paths they choose.

Support That Continues After High School

Graduation is a major milestone, but navigating what comes next can bring an entirely new set of questions.

That’s why KIPP Forward support continues after high school.

Alumni support begins when students graduate, building on relationships developed during their high school years. KIPP Forward advisors can continue helping alumni navigate their postsecondary plans and work through challenges that arise along the way.

For alumni attending college, support can include:

  • Choosing courses
  • Exploring majors
  • Completing the FAFSA
  • Finding internships
  • Exploring careers
  • Navigating academic or logistical challenges

KIPP Forward’s goal is to help alumni continue progressing toward their educational and career goals rather than ending support once they leave high school.
