“This has given me an opportunity to get new insights into the different aspects of school leadership, and it’s helped me grow and develop as a school leader in a safe, supportive space.” – Chelby Newbern, KIPP Nashville College Prep Middle School Principal and part of the Principal in Residence cohort
At KIPP Nashville, we are intentionally investing in growing our leaders across a variety of talent pathways. The Principal in Residence program is a one or two-year residency for aspiring principals to gain invaluable hands on experience and professional development, while being embedded in our schools as members of the leadership team. This opportunity provides an on ramp for our leaders to either become a successor at one of our schools, or a founding principal. We’re proud to say that all three of our recent principal hires are alumni of the Principal in Residence program.
“Having PIRs who know their schools already, know how our region operations, knows our students, knows our families, it allows for trust right off the bat.” – Matt Resavy, incoming Principal at KIPP Nashville Collegiate High School for the 2023-2024 school year, and part of the Principal in Residence cohort
