A charter school is an independently run, tuition-free public school that is allowed greater flexibility in operations in return for greater accountability for advancing student achievement. Charter schools were created to help improve our education system and offer parents another public school option to better meet their student’s educational needs. Here are a few things that differentiate KIPP schools:

Our KIPP Nashville schools are located in North, East and South Nashville. To see the location of each of our schools, please visit our school pages here.

KIPP Nashville is open to all students who are residents of Davidson County. We educate students in grades K-12. Enrollment is conducted through a random lottery that takes place in early Spring. There is no entry requirement to apply for or attend a KIPP Nashville school. We do not recruit students based on ability or performance, nor do we turn away students for any reason.

There is no fee or cost to apply or attend. KIPP Nashville schools are free, public schools.

Yes! We are proud to serve students with special needs through our talented, multi-dimensional Student Supports Team. We provide learning opportunities for students of all abilities, including special needs, gifted, and English Language Learners. For questions about specific services for students, please contact our schools directly.

We provide transportation for students at ALL KIPP Nashville campuses for students who live in our target zones. For specific questions about transportation at any of our schools, please contact our schools directly.

Our elementary and middle schools offer before and aftercare. The programs are coordinated through external vendors who handle signup and logistics. Information about how to sign up is shared during orientation before the start of the school year.

All applications submitted after the deadline will automatically be placed on the waiting list. We recommend families keep their place on the waitlist, because many schools continue to accept students off the waitlist throughout the summer and into the first few weeks of the new school year.

A student must be 5 years old on or before August 15th. Children who turn 5 between the dates of August 16th and September 30th may have their parent/guardian request the school to administer a Brigance K-Readiness Assessment.
