ATHLETICS THAT MAKE US PROUD TO WEAR THE JERSEY

  • Sports are about more than the results on a scoreboard. Increasingly appearing at higher-level competitions and earning awards, KIPP is growing both our athletic leadership and our physical facilities to continuously add more sports opportunities on more campuses. In fact, KIPP Nashville Collegiate HS and KIPP Antioch College Prep MS both made it to the TMSSA and TSSAA State Track Championships – both teams practicing for those competitions without access to a track. More importantly, we are expanding the KIPP athletic spirit of resilience, perseverance, and determination.

They carry a multitude of benefits, developing student-athletes who embody our core values of Competing with Character, Inspiring Excellence, and Leading with Integrity. Since our founding, KIPP Nashville has developed independent programs and partnered with local public schools to offer athletic opportunities for students to join competitive and club teams. Today, students are taking the fields and courts with excellence.

A Winning Mindset

Sports was never my thing except recess. I always wanted to try, but never felt good enough. School felt a little the same, but freshman year changed everything. I wanted to step outside my comfort zone and get serious. So, I decided to join track and field and paid more attention to my grades.

I quickly realized I was not the fastest. But I did want to improve, so I set some physical and mental goals with my coaches. I missed state by just a few seconds and a few inches, which set the tone for junior year: stay focused. It started to pay off – on the track and in the classroom.

Representing KIPP as the only athlete at city track championships brought a few physical and mental hurdles. I heard people say, KIPP can’t compete – a challenge I wanted to prove wrong. Then at districts, I tripped in warmups and rolled my ankle. It took me out of relays, but my individual events and goals stayed the course. At the starting line of the 300-meter hurdles, I prayed and ran through the pain- and finished 3rd, which earned me a spot in state.

Pushing through and setting goals teaches me that I am more determined and believe in myself more than I ever could have. My grades are the best I have ever reached and I am so excited for

PUSHING LIMITS ON FIELDS & COURTS

GROWTH

As we continue to grow, we are excited to expand elementary school sports opportunities, providing more students with access to athletics at an earlier age. We are also investing in the future of our programs through the development of a new track and field facility and turf soccer field. In addition, we are exploring the addition of boys volleyball and will celebrate a historic milestone as KIPP Antioch Global High School graduates its first senior class of student-athletes.

    CHEERING FOR THE BEST

KIPP Antioch Global High School recently made history by sending its Varsity Cheerleading Program to a Varsity Competitive Cheer Camp. The first time a KIPP Nashville cheer program has taken this step toward competitive cheerleading. This milestone represents a significant moment in the growth of our athletic programs and demonstrates our commitment to expanding opportunities for student-athletes.
