  • TEACHING & LEADING THAT FUELS THE GROWTH

Studies show that teachers are the single most important in-school factor in a child’s education. Their presence, relationship, and accountability sets the tone for a student’s work and attitude.

KIPP Nashville teachers are examples of excellence from the daily work of rote learning to the innovative ideas that unlock new educational approaches.

As we recruit the most accomplished and eager teachers, we will welcome those with the same active mindset as has been recognized in this year’s teachers.

THE MASTER TEACHER PROGRAM

Now in its fifth year, the KIPP Master Teacher program grew to 60+ active and former Master Teachers.

The program is designed to identify, reward, and learn from KIPP Nashville’s most impactful teachers. Teachers have the opportunity to grow and learn through this in-classroom program while also deepening a shared vision and raising our collective impact on our KIPPsters. Master Teachers at KIPP Nashville have demonstrated exceptional results with students at our schools, show strong overall mastery of the Instructional Excellence Rubric, uphold the core values of Growth, Team, and Shine, and enthusiastically open their doors to colleagues from across the region, allowing others to learn from the best of the best.

  • Because of the Master Teacher Program, I have been trusted with larger responsibilities, including serving as a Grade Team Leader, coaching in the Summer Taxonomy Program for incoming teachers, and this past year being one of three teachers selected to serve as a lead presenter and coordinator for the program. I want us to continue building a culture where students are doing most of the thinking, talking, questioning, and problem-solving, while teachers create the conditions and support students through that process.

THE PRINCIPAL IN RESIDENCE PROGRAM

Now in its ninth year, this two-year program develops the next generation of leaders in KIPP Nashville.

Each participant embeds as an Assistant Principal at one of our schools and works closely with their colleagues in the cohort throughout the year, building a leadership pipeline that reflects our students and families.

  • DR SARAH MOORE
  • I am learning to see the bigger picture at the school-wide level and identify problems and solutions beyond the perspective of an individual teacher or grade level. Recently, I had the opportunity to serve as the school leader for a week, and there were days when my team and staff looked to me for guidance and answers. I am also learning from regional leaders. Gleaning insights from their experiences and leadership has been invaluable to my growth.

NATIONAL KIPP OPERATIONS EXCELLENCE AWARDS GIVEN TO KIPP: NASHVILLE LEADERS

Two KIPP Nashville Directors of Operations received the national KIPP Heart & SOL Award in recognition of their work to help students show up, stay engaged, and thrive in school every day. Both Sydney McGhee, KIPP Kirkpatrick Director of Operations, and Christina Scott, KIPP Antioch Global High School Director of Operations, developed the systems and the relational opportunities to support students and their families on their attendance journeys. From predictive efforts to intervene with students before their absence leads to learning challenges to rewarding students for high attendance, both schools saw impressive attendance improvement for their communities – ranging from nearly 6% increase at Global to nearly 20% increase for Kirkpatrick year over year.
