ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT THAT RAISES THE BAR

  • MORE within Reach...

Academic achievement is the foundation from which every student can grow. This year, KIPPsters and their teachers continued a trajectory of academic growth that is raising the bar for all of Nashville.

Just four years ago, we set a very specific goal for more and more KIPP students to exceed average state proficiency – approximately 40% in key areas like ELA, math, and social studies. We started with just a few student groupings meeting that threshold; today, nearly every student group has reached that goal. So we raised the bar and are pursuing a higher goal of 50% – our progress toward which you will see in the following pages. This is just one of several key goals that will guide our future.

Academic achievement like this is the launchpad for future academic growth, and we will continue to recruit the best staff and invest in the processes students need to reach new heights.

TN READY
PERFORMANCE OVER TIME

pg13-heading

The state’s measure of individual student achievement, our TN Ready/Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program (TCAP) scores continue to show demonstrated growth throughout each school. Overall, KIPPsters scored higher than they did last year, showing true growth.

The few subject areas where achievement decreased help us identify where we will invest targeted time to understand learning gaps and enhance instruction so that students establish new baseline achievement in future years.

PERFORMANCE OVER TIME

MEASURING MORE
THAN PROFICIENCY

Each year, the Tennessee Department of Education scores schools based on growth through its Tennessee Value-Added Assessment System (TVAAS) and achievement through letter grades. Both ratings take into account multiple student and teacher measures that combine to offer greater transparency into school performance.

Our scores reveal both achievement and growth — the ideal combination as we continue making progress toward our goals. These ratings show us what’s working, where we can share best practices, and how we can continuously improve.

leading growth

Every student starts somewhere – from their grades and achievement scores to their approach to learning. What matters most is growth. In nearly every area we measure, KIPPsters are achieving year-over-year growth that builds and opens doors for future success. Below are two success stories – sustained literacy achievement and significant social studies growth.

OUR PATH TO 75%

Every year brings us closer.

Our goal is clear: 75% of students matriculating in a 4-year college. We are making steady progress on the measures that contribute to that goal – closing gaps, raising expectations, and creating more opportunities every day.

This perspective pushes us to grow and helps us achieve among the best.
